This morning, like many other mornings, I went out for my morning medication routine. (I have fibromyalgia and chronic pain from when a truck hit me.)

A Sketch of the Ragdoll-like cat I saw this morning.

As I sit out on an old pioneer-style porch, a cat I am familiar with comes sauntering across the road. He’s moving quick, his fluff bounces. With every step he takes, he meows at me. It’s a cute sing-song meowling and he doesn’t stop until he gets across the road…

Meowls.

He’s crossing the flower bed…

Meowls.

Crossing the lawn…

Meowls.

This cat was so happy to see me. Funny thing is, this cat is a stray boy who’s all over the place. He’s got mats in his fur that seem to tug on his back and make him uncomfortable (and I’d really like to help him with that). Which means I would love to secure his friendship and get him neutered if he isn’t already.

He arrives along the edge of the deck.

He talks.

I talk.

We take turns saying nothing to each other.

I tell him he’s a good boy, that he’s pretty, and that my cat’s already outside somewhere around here….

Meowls.

It’s a bit higher pitched than I would expect from a male cat, but my cat who is female has the pitch of a bell. It’s cute and doesn’t seem too off. I won’t worry about it. Have I misgendered the cat? They have shorter throats and don’t meow for anyone except humans, did you know?

Maybe he’s missed the human interaction? The chatting? Well, if that’s the case then this stray has found the right human.

I sat outside and talked with him for over an hour this morning. I think I’m making headway.

…to be continued….
